The Ministry of Sport Youth and National Service's Executive Director, Mbumba Haitengela, has clarified that the electricity and water bills for the Independence Stadium were paid on Wednesday afternoon before the power outage occurred.
The power outage resulted in the match between Orlando Pirates and Life Fighters being abandoned. However, Haitengela refuted claims and reports in the media suggesting that the Ministry owed N$400,000 to the City of Windhoek.
He stated that the outstanding balance was paid on Friday the 17th and again last Wednesday, erasing all debts.
Haitengela expressed his dissatisfaction with the City of Windhoek's decision to disconnect their privately owned generator at the Independence Stadium, which he considered an act of sabotage.
He assured that the Ministry will not take this matter lightly and will work towards finding common ground.
The Executive Director apologized to Orlando Pirates, Life Fighters, and their supporters for the inconvenience caused. He promised that internal issues will be resolved without affecting the game of football in the future.
Fortunately, the issue between the two parties was resolved, allowing the Pirates and Life Fighters' match to take place at the Stadium on Thursday. Okahtjirona emerged victorious with a 2-0 win in their away game.
In addition, Debmarine matches were also played on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, ensuring that the sporting events continued as planned.
