The Galz and Goals Football Development Programme in the Karasburg District of the ||Kharas region recently hosted the FIFA Grassroots Festival, aimed at nurturing young girls and equipping them with the skills to potentially represent the national team in the future.

The festival, which took place over the weekend, not only promotes healthy lifestyles among girls but also encourages their development into professional football players.

Kullus Simboya, the Galz and Goals coordinator, expressed his belief that more initiatives like this should be organized to provide girls with resources and skills. He emphasized the positive impact of sports in building teamwork, discipline, and time management, instilling resilience and the ability to rise after falling.

Supported by the NFA, SCORE Namibia, and UNICEF, the festival saw the participation of approximately 140 young girls. It served as a platform for them to showcase their talent, learn from experienced players, and enjoy the camaraderie of playing together.

Joana-Lie Simboya, a player for the Baby Gladiators, highlighted the significance of the festival, stating that it is where their football journeys began. She encouraged the participants to have fun, enjoy the game, and embrace the connections they would build with each other on the field.

NBC Sport also interviewed some participants of the football development program, who emphasized the importance of the festival. Angela Matroos, a young football player, expressed her desire to be part of sports tournaments and was grateful for the opportunity to join the team.

Rocksandre Muterro, another player, shared her journey from Galz and Goals to becoming a first division soccer player for Dakaza.
