The Namibian Police have promoted over 4,000 officers, its first ever mass promotion of this scale.
The Inspector General of NamPol, Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo, says, "All promoted officers are expected to continue working hard, maintain a high level of discipline, and improve service delivery. You should not relax and feel that you have now become bosses! What you should always remember is that you are police officers, and your duty is to serve and protect the people."
The promotion of ranks ranges from Constable to Sergeant 2, Sergeant 2 to Sergeant 1, from Sergeant 1 to Warrant Officer 2, and from Warrant Officer 2 to Warrant Officer 1.
The new structure that created these positions was approved and signed into effect by the Minister of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety, and Security in August.
This has resulted in the mass promotion of 4682 officers, comprising 2638 males and 2244 females.
Lieutenant General Shikongo emphasised that police force promotions are not just decorations but responsibilities that require accountability, commitment, and honesty in upholding the rule of law.
Some of the promoted officers thanked the Major General for their appointments and promised to uphold the law and work very hard.
The police aim to make a global impact through a recent partnership between Israel Patrick Iyambo Police College and the InterPol Global Academy Network, aimed at developing joint trainings, courses, and applied research projects.
