Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila has highlighted Namibia's accomplishments in the field of gender equality, noting the country's efforts in appointing leaders and its gender-inclusive policies.
The Prime Minister addressed the Human Rights 75-Side Event, this year themed "Africa Committed to the Promotion of Participation of Women in the Public and Political Life," held in Geneva, Switzerland.
Kuugongelwa-Amadhila specifically mentioned the implementation of the zebra policy within parliament and the ruling party's election structure, adding that implementing such frameworks was a struggle at the time, given the male-dominated sentiment at the time.
The Prime Minister highlighted the pivotal role played by male advocates in marshalling this law, emphasising that gender equality achieved in Namibia was a collective responsibility.
Among the policy frameworks mentioned were the National Gender Policy and the Women, Peace, and Security sector. These initiatives aim to advance gender equality, empower women, and ensure their participation in decision-making processes.
The Prime Minister adds how the government's policies of equality work on a ground level.
The Prime Minister further urged delegates to learn from the successes of other nations.
