The absence of a substantive Chief Executive Officer at Bukalo Village Council over the past years has resulted in alleged maladministration and poor service delivery.

The council's challenges were highlighted by the Chairperson of the Bukalo Village Council's Management Committee, Simataa Mubonda, during a swearing-in ceremony where he was re-elected.

Mubonda says the council continues to operate with a shoe-string budget, resulting in a shortfall in services such as sewer reticulation and town planning.

He, however, said the council will strengthen its relationship with potential clients and stakeholders to successfully craft a plan of action to transform the town.

"While knowing that resources are not at our disposal, we will endeavour to work hand in hand with all our potential stakeholders to find ways we can better improve our situations and encourage a developmental attitude that will propel us forward in making Bukalo Village Council a sought-after place to line up with those around us."

He also applauded the government, through the Ministry of Urban and Rural Development, for providing funds amounting to N$3 million.

These funds will be used to compensate residents who will be relocated to make way for development.

"We have so far managed to get the ball rolling by soliciting funds from the government via the line ministry to get funds meant for the compensation of our esteemed residents of Bukalo who lost their inheritance due to the envisaged town planning milestone that the council wishes to realise as we grow with desired infrastructure."

The Swapo Party representative on the council, Mubonda, is deputised by Popular Democratic Movement's (PDM) Beaven Sakutuka, who also retained his position.
