The Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) has secured the broadcast rights for the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) football competition scheduled to take place from Saturday, January 13, 2024.
The NBC will broadcast all 52 games on television as well as through the newly launched app, nbcPlus (available on Appstore and https://nbcplus.na) while radio will broadcast 46 out of the 52 games.
With securing the AFCON broadcasting rights from New World TV (NWT"), which was appointed by CAF as the official agency and rights holder for all sub-Saharan African countries for free-to-air rights for all CAF competitions, the NBC will broadcast the 52 matches, the opening and closing ceremonies, highlights and round-up programmes.
The NBC’s Director General, Stanley Benjamin Similo, stressed the importance of Namibians supporting the national broadcaster by paying their television licences as part of the broadcaster’s revenue-generating efforts, which in turn empowers it to acquire the necessary broadcast rights to bring premium content to the masses.
With the support of paid-up TV licence holders, advertisers and the shareholder, the multimedia broadcaster is able to bring one of the most significant tournaments on the African continent to Namibian viewers.
Similo said, “We are confident that we will successfully deliver this event. Following the public outcry yearning to watch and listen to these games, we are able to create platforms through which these matches can be watched. This is our contribution, whereby we unite Namibians to come together as one Namibia, one nation. We all need to rally behind the Brave Warriors, particularly knowing where our football is coming from. To the NBC’s respective production teams and our presenters, I am standing with you, recognising the teamwork and diligence displayed to secure the broadcast rights. To our sponsors, thank you very much!"
