The Minister of Education, Arts, and Culture, Anna Nghipondoka, says exam results cause anxiety amongst learners and that they need support at all times.

Nghipondoka said this after an incident where a 17-year-old male learner, Shatiwa Nghifilenga, allegedly committed suicide after failing Grade 11.

She urged learners to have a positive mindset that, after failure, there can also be success.

The minister says that all schools have life skills teachers that provide counseling and urged teachers to ensure that they pay attention to learners who haven't done well in the previous exams and identify them so that they can get prompt emotional support.

Nghipondoka, however, says parents should be more sensitive and be involved in their children's education from the onset instead of waiting for results and then expressing their disappointment, which can have catastrophic consequences.

The minister also added that there are social workers at government health facilities across the country where learners can get the necessary support they need both before and after the results are announced.
