The Ministry of Rural and Urban Development (MURD) has given its approval for the Keetmanshoop Municipality's operational budget for the 2023–2024 period, amounting to a substantial N$296.8 million.

Following this approval of the budget by Urban and Rural Development Minister Erastus Uutoni, the municipality presented the budget to the town's residents.

The approved N$296.8 million budget increased by 13.8% compared to the N$255 million 2022/2023 financial budget.

The budget includes a N$5.8 million allocation from the central government, which will be used for bulk infrastructure services.

A bulk of the budget's expenditure is projected to be spent on trading services, including water and electricity supplies.

The electricity budget is projected at N$120.4 million, which translates to 42.2%, while the salary cost is N$79.9 million, translating to 27% of the budget.

"This is the budget we have presented to the Minister, which was recently approved, and I want to thank you for your continued stewardship of our community and our staff. I also want to know that this proposal continues some of the basic commitments that I believe we share," said the town's mayor, McDonald Hanse.
