The Masubia Traditional Authority has officially inaugurated Gilbert Muhongo Mutwa as Chief, bringing to an end a four-year leadership vacuum following the death of Munitenge Kisco Maiba Liswani III in 2021.
Mutwa, who was designated chief in April of this year, was crowned today at the Royal Palace in Bukalo.
A retired legal drafter from the Ministry of Justice, Mutwa left public service in 2017. He is the eldest son of the late Chief Joseph Moraliswani II, who passed away in 1996. Leadership then transitioned to the late Chief Kisco Maiba Liswani III, who served until his death in 2021.
At the coronation ceremony, Minister of Urban and Rural Development James Sankwasa, who approved Mutwa’s designation after consultations with the Masubia Royal House, called on the community to unite behind their new leader.
Delivering a message on behalf of the Zambezi Regional Governor, Regional Councillor Bernard Sisamu congratulated the Masubia Traditional Authority, describing the installation of new leadership as the start of a renewed chapter for the community.
