The Otjiwarongo Municipality in the Otjozondjupa Region has acquired a new fleet of heavy road upgrade machinery to repair the potholes, which are an eyesore, and upgrade major roads and intersections in the town.

Unveiling the new fleet comprising a roller compactor, water truck, front-end loader, and grader valued at over N$10 million, Town Mayor Gottlieb Shivute says the acquisition is a symbol of progress for a better Otjiwarongo.

For years, council has battled to address persistent potholes, a situation Shivute says will be a thing of the past as council is committed to enhancing the town's road infrastructure.

"This new fleet of machinery is a tangible commitment to enhanced and efficient service delivery for the benefit of all our residents and a symbol of progress towards a better Otjiwarongo. Furthermore, I am confident that with this new fleet at our disposal, we will see an even greater impact on the development of our town."

The event also coincided with the launch of phase 2 of the Rehabilitation and Realignment of Sections of Rikumbi Kandanga and Henk Willems Streets to be interlocked for one kilometre at a cost of over N$5 million.

Through a tripartite Memorandum of Agreement between the Roads Authority, the Roads Fund Administration, and the council, N$71 million has been set aside for the upgrade of major roads connecting to selected urban roads, which will be done over three years.

The council also revealed the replacement of the old Karundu water tower that feeds the Orwetoveni location and the Blink Toring water tower that supplies the town's informal settlements.
