The Namibian Police Force (NamPol), together with the Namibian Institute of Public Administration and Management (NIPAM), is offering leadership development training at Rundu.
The program is being attended by 36 station commanders from all 14 regions.
The training course will be held over five days.
The police chief, Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo, officially opened the leadership development course for station commanders.
He says the programme is designed to cultivate excellence, inspire innovation, and foster a sense of duty and responsibility among law enforcement leaders.
"Leadership is not just a position; it is a responsibility, a commitment to the welfare and safety of our communities. As guardians of justice. It is imperative that our police station commanders embody the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and compassion. This training course is not just a collection of lessons; it is a vessel where leaders are forged, tested, and refined to shine as beacons of hope and inspiration in their respective fields."
The Inspector General urged the station commanders in attendance to be willing to learn and embrace change.
"I would like to point out that station commanders are entrusted with a crucial role in maintaining law and order within our communities. Hence, it is imperative to emphasise the principles of discipline and adherence to the Police Act, 19 of 1990, as amended, and police administration manuals. The documents are not just guidelines; they are the cornerstone of our commitment to serving and protecting the public with the highest level of integrity."
NIPAM representative Joseph Tjakwanda said this training will not only benefit the police but also the nation at large, given its broad scope.
"Let me highlight the key advantages you can anticipate, such as enhancing your leadership skills, strategic thinking, crisis management, networking, and collaboration. As we commence this leadership development course, I encourage you to approach each session enthusiastically and open-mindedly. Embrace the opportunity to learn, grow, and evolve as a leader. The knowledge you will get here will benefit your professional journey and contribute to the betterment of our nation, which is Namibia."
