The Landless People's Movement (LPM) leader Bernardus Swartbooi added his voice to the tributes pouring in for the late President Geingob.

Swartbooi said he had hoped that the late president would recover after his medical treatment, adding that he was shocked at his sudden demise.

Swartbooi recounted his recent visit to Dr. Geingob's house.

"And we spent an hour talking and laughing. And, sort of, we collectively felt some sense of relief that here was this man undergoing treatment, but we're able to see him in the flesh and share some jokes and some laughter. So one of the things I said to him was that, well, like you're not, we all agree that you have lived your life freely and in the way you wanted it. He was laughing the typical ideal laughter, and I hugged him as we laughed quite profoundly."

This moment, he said, having a final sit-down with the late Geingob, he will forever cherish.

He urged the nation at large, including all political parties, to mourn and celebrate the life of the president respectfully.
