President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah is back home after attending the inauguration of Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema in Lusaka.

She says Namibia and Zambia have agreed to strengthen cooperation, particularly in infrastructure development.

The President says Namibia's presence at the inauguration was warmly welcomed by the Zambian people.

She says she also conveyed congratulations from Namibians to the Zambian president and people.

"The people of Zambia are very grateful that Namibia has joined them on the inauguration of President Hichilema. And what it really means, because I also took the message from the Namibians who are congratulating the president and the people of Zambia. And that as neighbours, we must continue to develop and strengthen our cooperation. And specifically, we discussed with the President that we should really now push up our infrastructure development, particularly the discussions we are having between Namibia, Botswana, and Zambia. So we agreed to meet in order to implement those infrastructure developments."

President Nandi-Ndaitwah says discussions with President Hichilema also focused on accelerating infrastructure development between the two countries.

This includes ongoing discussions involving Namibia, Botswana and Zambia, with the three countries looking at ways to advance regional infrastructure projects.

The president says the countries have agreed to meet to move these plans forward.

The visit comes as Namibia continues to strengthen cooperation with neighbouring countries and advance regional integration.
