Speaker of the National Assembly, Professor Peter Katjavivi, today paid an emotional and passionate tribute to the late President Hage Geingob when he spoke at the opening of the 9th session of the 7th parliament.
In a poignant moment, Professor Katjivivi could not contain his emotions, and tears welled up in his eyes as he passionately paid tribute to the late President Geingob, acknowledging the indelible mark he left on the nation's journey with his pivotal leadership.
"To say one or two things, as I recall Hage as someone from childhood to manhood to much older years in our lives, there is so much I would like to say, and I am very much looking forward to members of this National Assembly coming back tomorrow to do precisely that."
Professor Katjavivi also reminded fellow MPs of their duties, highlighting the need for MPs to listen, engage, and act decisively to address challenges faced by Namibian citizens, including providing efficient service delivery.
Professor Katjvavivi highlighted the ongoing challenge of unemployment and the need to improve the lives of all Namibians as the new legislative year commences.
"As we approach the 2024 Presidential and National Assembly Elections, let us renew our commitment to the leadership as well as to the need to preserve peace and stability in our country. I urge all of you to approach the task ahead of you with the spirit of unity and cooperation. Our late president always stressed and underlined the idea of togetherness and holding hands, and he would constantly refer to the Namibian house, which should be inclusive forever. It is through our combined efforts that we can achieve greater goods for our country and its people, which has been our national need for One Namibia, One Nation."
