Residents of Kavango West Region gathered in numbers to pay homage to the late President Hage Geingob.

The Governor of Kavango West Region, Sirkka Ausiku, shared a message of condolence on behalf of the Kavango West Region.

"The Kavango West Region is mourning the untimely passing of our beloved president, his excellency Dr. Hage G. Geingob. He was our national hero, the founding member of the Namibian Constitution, and a person who was passionate about administratively effective service delivery to the Namibian nation. He put more effort into improving our social network, which is to support the vulnerable in our communities."

In attendance was Namibia's High Commissioner to Zambia, Siyave Haindongo, who described the late president as a great leader, saying that he served his purpose diligently.

Looking at our president, he was a person who put in effort at a tender age to go out of the country, sacrificing himself. He skipped his youth, and almost all the fun youth would have to do was go fight for the freedom of our nation. Even after independence, he continued serving in the new and independent government. He served diligently in all the positions he was assigned and fulfilled his purpose; he proved to be a great leader of the people of Namibia. Africa is bleeding; we indeed have lost. It is not only Namibia but the world at large that is crying."

Community members in attendance shared their messages with the bereaved family.

During the ceremony, candles were arranged in the shape of the Namibian map.
