The Ministry of Education has been called upon to benchmark its education curriculum against that of the private school system.

Some MPs in the National Assembly hold the view that private schools consistently outperform government schools.

Popular Democratic Movement (PDM) MP Hidipo Hamata tabled a motion in the National Assembly that seeks urgent and immediate action to be taken to rectify the disparity in performance.

Hidipo stated that the performance of government schools is compromised when parents and teachers are preoccupied with the demanding task of resource procurement.

Hidipo thus urged the government to prioritise the allocation of resources.

He advocated for the return of the old but proven method of direct procurement and distribution of essential supplies to every school.

He added that in the past, this approach ensured that schools received the necessary resources without placing undue financial burdens on parents or distracting teachers from their primary task of educating learners.

"By adopting a centralised procurement and distribution system, the government can ensure equity; every school, regardless of location or socioeconomic status, will have equal access to essential resources, promoting equity in education. Simplify processes, eliminate the need for teachers and parents to engage in fundraising or donation solicitation, streamline the education process, and allow educators to focus solely on teaching."
