The Ministry of Gender Equality, Poverty Eradication, and Social Welfare (MGEPESW) is reviving the regional Gender Permanent Task Force committee at Gobabis.
The committee, which comprises heads of various ministries and traditional leaders, deals with gender-based violence-related issues at the regional level, and the review aims to acquaint themselves with what is expected of them.
The Chief Community Liaison Officer in the Ministry of Gender Equality, Poverty Eradication, and Social Welfare, Threncia Tjaondjo, says the committee has been dormant for the past five years due to limited budgetary allocation.
With the current budget, the work of the committee has now been revived, and members are expected to strategize on how to deal with GBV and other social ills.
Omaheke Governor Pijoo Nganate, who also serves as Chairperson of the Gender Permanent Task Force Committee, reminded the team about the daunting task ahead in addressing the pressing gender issue in the region.
Nganate also added that issues of gender-based violence require a multi-faceted approach from relevant stakeholders.
