An after-school wrestling program in Namibia is making waves in the sporting world. The After School Centre Wrestling Club, located in Katutura and overseen by the Ministry of Gender Equality, has witnessed its young wrestlers secure a total of 16 medals at international competitions over the past two years.

This accomplishment highlights the impact of after-school programs in empowering underprivileged youth and nurturing athletic talent within these communities. The center conducts training sessions for hundreds of school children in various groups, led by coach Luis Forcelledo at different time slots after the school day concludes.

In 2023, the club sent seven wrestlers to the Continental Wrestling Africa Championship in Tunisia, where they returned triumphant with nine medals. Most recently, the wrestlers showcased their skills at two prestigious events: the 13th Africa Games in Ghana and the African Continental Championships held in Egypt.

At the All Africa Games, the team fielded both boys and girls' teams, with Ester Abraham securing a bronze medal. Additionally, at the African Continental Championships, six wrestlers, including Abraham, claimed a total of six medals - four bronze and two silver - bringing the overall medal count to 16 over a span of two years.

Coach Luis Forcelledo expressed his satisfaction with the team's performance, emphasizing their dedication and hard work. As they gear up for the Olympic Qualifiers in Turkey, the team remains focused on honing their skills and achieving further success on the international stage.
