Three more oil reservoirs were discovered following the drilling for hydrocarbons in the Mopane well in the offshore Orange Basin. 

Ministry of Mines and Energy Petroleum Commissioner Maggy Shino stated that a droplet size distribution will soon be concluded, while an assessment of not less than four wells is expected to be drilled in 2025. 

Shino announced that Shell delivered a notice that the Enigma well they were drilling as an exploration well has now turned into a discovery. 

This means that the amount of fuel expected from the well has increased.

Shino also gave an overview of the Kudu Gas project, saying plans are in place to produce gas via the Luderitz and Elizabeth Bay pipelines as well as have a power plant to be developed in two phases.

This, she says, is an integrated project open to all role players' for the Kudu gas project to successfully take off.

"The outside potential that exists with the seismic data acquired is that we are going to see more resources coming in, making it possible for Namibia now to start considering itself as a possible hub for the region, and that is what we are considering."

A final investment decision for the Kudu gas project will be made in 2025, and by 2027, the first power molecules are expected from Namibia's natural gas production.
