Athletics Namibia hosted its annual Senior National Athletics Championship in Windhoek, attracting top athletes from across 12 affiliated regions.

The championship, held over the weekend, was filled with competitive spirit, remarkable performances, and notable achievements.

Athletics Namibia President, Erwin Naimhwaka, expressed his satisfaction with the level of competition and performances.

He highlighted the eagerness of the athletes to compete, which led to some outstanding results.

His sentiments were echoed by Erongo Regional Sports Officer, Berthold Karumendu, who described the event as a resounding success.

Magano Naseb, a young athlete from the ||Kharas region, made a significant impact by finishing second in the 200 meters, running a qualifying time of 20.95 seconds.

This achievement surpassed the required qualifying time of 21.35 seconds for the Under 20 category, earning Naseb a spot in the upcoming World Under 20 Championships in Peru.

Another standout athlete, Bradley Murere, who competes in the 100m and 200m as a para-athlete, expressed his happiness with his overall performance at the championships.

He is now focused on the upcoming championships in Japan later this year, with hopes of qualifying for the Paralympic Games.

The championships concluded with the Khomas Region taking first place with 739 points.

Erongo Region secured second place with 121 points, while Omaheke Region finished in third with 69 points across 41 events.

A highlight of the event was Gilbert Hainuca's record-tying performance in the 100m, clocking an impressive time of 9.86 seconds, matching the record set by Frank Fredericks in 1996.

Christine Mboma emerged victorious in the women's 100m event at the Namibian Senior Championships, clocking an impressive time of 11.61 seconds.

Overall, the Athletics Namibia National Senior Championships provided a platform for athletes to showcase their talents and achieve remarkable milestones, setting the stage for future games.
