Brave Warriors Coach Collin Benjamin has announced a 52-man squad for the FIFA World Cup Qualifier matches against Liberia on June 5th and Tunisia on June 11th, followed by the COSAFA Cup starting on June 15th. He made this announcement at the NFA Soccer House in the capital on Tuesday.

The Brave Warriors mentor shared his views on the 52-man squad, saying, “Some of these guys were not even supposed to be there, but they crafted their reality. A lot of effort, a lot of hard work—they crafted their reality into making that a truth. Some of them are playing now, taking care of themselves through their jobs, being professional players, taking care of their families, and being family men.”

Benjamin retained most of the squad members who featured at the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) earlier in the year, including team captain Peter Shallulile, Lloyd Kazaa, Deon Hotto, Bethuel Muzeu, Ryan Nyambe, Ananias Gebhardt, and Aprocious Petrus, who signed up for Cape Town City in the DStv Premiership following a stellar performance at AFCON in Cote D’Ivoire.

Stocky midfielder Wangu Gome, currently playing club football at FC Ongos, also returned to the squad after a lengthy absence.

Additionally, Benjamin called up eight players from the Nedbank Namibian Newspaper Cup tournament that took place in Gobabis, Omaheke region, over a month ago.

Brago Rukoro from the Omaheke region and Rupura Tjambeni from Omusati join the goalkeeping department.

Kavango East under-20 regional team captain Marek Kapuro and Namayabona Matengu of Zambezi region are part of the defenders.

Mamba Magameno of Kavango East, Zuze Mutala from Zambezi region, Maurizio January from Erongo, and Punaje Katjimune from Omaheka are all additions to the midfield.

Despite the new faces in the squad, several regular campaigners did not make the list, such as Petrus Shitembi, Absalom Iimbondi, Ueturu Kambato, Denzil Hauseb, Joslin Kamatuka, Elmo Kambindu and Marcel Papama.

The injured Prins Tjiueza and Lubeni Haukongo are still recovering from injuries. While the unattended lengthy defender Kennedy Amutenya was left out of the squad.

“36/37 players will come in on Tuesday,  we will assess  them, groom them and give them the platform,  it's young boys let's give them a chance" he said

The players are set to report for training on May 14, 2024, at the NFA Technical Centre. The squad will train for two weeks before leaving for Johannesburg, South Africa.
