The Namibian delegation to the World Hydrogen 2024 Summit and Exhibition will focus on key strategic areas of skills development for locals and off-take support mechanisms for green hydrogen.

The Green Hydrogen Commissioner, James Mnuype, outlined these and other activities of the delegation for the week ahead in Rotterdam, Netherlands, the host of the Hydrogen Summit.

More than 15,000 delegates from the public and private sectors across the world are confirmed to attend the World Hydrogen 2024 Summit and Exhibition.

“Key strategic areas there, of course, include skills development and some bilateral conversations to ensure that the molecules that are manufactured in Namibia are indeed well-received here, and all of the financial mechanisms to be deployed to make those molecules affordable are going to be discussed.”

The Namibian delegation has set up a pavilion on the margins of the World Hydrogen 2024 Summit and Exhibition for engagements with private, public, and global institutions.

President Nangolo Mbumba would visit the sites where the Namibian Green Hydrogen Programme would be showcasing nine projects being developed across Namibia, alongside the Daures Green Hydrogen Village.

“At the Daures village stand, they will be showcasing all of the work that has been done today, the pre-feasibility studies, and their roadmap to bring in a strategic investor to get that project to a final decision to produce more than 1 million metric tonnes of ammonia. After that, the President will leave the summit and head to Radbound University, while the rest will stay behind and showcase Namibia's future ideas on how to develop large-scale green hydrogen projects.”

A number of other African countries also want to use the platform to foster collaboration for renewable energy industry expansion through the Africa Hydrogen Forum at the summit.

The Africa Hydrogen Forum is expected to shine a spotlight on the commercial opportunities for the development of a hydrogen economy in Africa and the partnership potential this creates for Europe and the rest of the world.
