The 4th edition of the Oshakati Town Council Mayoral Cup concluded with Island Boys and Ondangwa Masters crowned as Champions in Youth and Legend soccer at the Oshakati Independence Stadium. The past weekend, the Oshakati Town Council pulled off a memorable 4th edition of the Mayoral Cup that had the highest participants compared to previous Mayoral Cups in the northern part of the country due to the high stake in the prize monies and intense competition among teams.
The Mayoral Cup also serves as an opportunity for local business people to earn a little bit of income in the process as the tournament improves every year to cater to all and not only the participating regions. The match between the Windhoek-based Island Boys FC and the Ondangwa-based Alnur Football Academy seemed like a training session for the Island Boys as they destroyed Alnur Football Academy with eight goals scored in the first and second half.
This is how Alnur Football Academy coach Ashraf Arend summed up the match. Island Boys coach Benjamin Ndiili also mentioned that the champions win means a lot to him and the team as it motivated the team to win the trophy three times and shelf the trophy in their cupboard for good. The Oshakati Town Council promises to invite more sponsors in the upcoming Mayoral Cup 5th edition to accommodate more regions to participate in this anticipated Mayoral Cup next year.
