A group of para-athletes, along with their delegates and guides, has returned from the World Para Athletics Championship held in Kobe, Japan.

Upon arrival, they paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Sport, where they were warmly received by the Deputy Minister Emma Kantema-Gaomas, Director of Sport Joan Manuel, and the Executive Director Mbumba Haitengela. 

The team celebrated notable successes at the global para championship in Kobe, Japan, securing two medals in the T11 400-meter events.

Chris Kinda, along with his guide, won a gold medal in the men's T11 400 meters, while Lahja Ishitile earned a bronze medal in the women's T11 400 meters with her guide Sam Shimhanda.

This year, Namibia's number of competitors at the Paralympic Games has increased, with Ananias Shikongo, Johannes Nambala, Lahja Ishitile, and Chris Kinda all managing to book their tickets to Paris.

Deputy Minister Kantema-Gaomas praised the athletes for their dedication and achievements, highlighting the pride they bring to the nation.

Hamhola also informed those in attendance that para-athletes Ananias Shikongo, Johannes Nambala, and Sam Shimhanda remained in Japan to continue their training and preparations for the upcoming Paralympic Games in France.

There are still opportunities for other athletes to secure their spots as the qualification deadline was extended until the end of June.
