The Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Emma Theofelus, has presented regulations critical for enacting the Access to Information Act, 2022.

These regulations, approved by the National Assembly, outline the procedures for appointing the Information Commissioner and Deputy Information Commissioner, roles crucial for ensuring transparency and accountability in the country.

Under the new rules, a five-member Selection Committee will oversee the appointment process.

Committee members will serve a five-year term, with reappointment possible.

The regulations emphasise integrity, requiring members to avoid conflicts of interest and prohibiting the misuse of confidential information.

Minister Theofelus highlighted the importance of the Act, stating it will empower citizens and enhance democratic governance.
