The Landless People's Movement's Bernadus Swartbooi has expressed disappointment with the National Assembly, stating that it fails to embody a democratic space rooted in values and virtues.

Swartbooi questioned whether the issues debated truly reflect the serious demands of and for the people.

"Look at the laws that have been made. The laws that are being made are giving high levels of discretionary power to administrative officials, undermining parliament's capacity for oversight of the executive. And therefore, the dictatorship of the executive arm of the state determines what happens in the national assembly. The National Assembly was defeated a long time ago by the executive branch of the state, and only the judiciary remained relatively untouched by the hollowing out of the executive dictatorship."
