In a striking political shift, former Popular Democratic Movement (PDM) MP Vipuakuje Muharukua, has switched allegiance to the ruling Swapo Party.
Muharukua, who resigned from PDM barely three months ago, declared his support for Vice President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah in the November national elections.
Muharukua joined the National Assembly in 2015 on the PDM's ticket.
During his service of about nine years, he spoke as an opponent would.
But today, the former MP sings a different tune, announcing his defection to the Swapo Party while flanked by a welcoming team.
The once-youngest MP in the National Assembly says the decision to leave PDM was not an overnight decision, as he has been pondering it since 2022.
In his realisation, Muharukua says no other party is capable of leading the country except the Swapo Party because of its clean hands, administration transparency, and stance on corruption.
"Knowing what I know, it has been clear since that time that Namibia is better off under the leadership of the Swapo Party. If one disagrees, I give you one question to ponder: if the Swapo Party decides today that we are not running for elections, any party can constitute government....run our budget without catastrophe. That is why I say a vote against SWAPO is a vote to destroy the livelihoods of Namibians and the gains of the past 34 years."
On November 27th, Muharukua aims to tick the box next to Nandi-Ndaitwah, owing to her presidential suitability.
Not only that, but he says Nandi-Ndaitwah is capable of responsibly managing the country's natural resources because of her extensive experience and firm authority, and she is also a visionary leader.
Muharukua has implored eligible voters to think rationally because their choices could break or make Namibia stronger and more prosperous, concluded the new Swapo member.
