The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) is concerned about the low turnout at registration points countrywide.

So far, only 823,761 Namibians have registered to take part in the November 27 elections. The figure represents an average of 24,562 registered voters per day.

The |Khomas Region tops with 152,920 registered voters, followed by the Ohangwena Region at 87,441, and the Omusati Region in third place with 85,230 registered voters.

The Omaheke has registered 24,261, the Zambezi 26,307, ||Kharas 36,005, Erongo 76,641, Hardap 27,793, Kavango East 52,380, Kavango West 30,581, Kunene 28,503, Oshana 73,295, Oshikoto 63,187, and the Otjozondjupa Region 57,869 potential voters.

Those who registered abroad at Namibia's foreign missions are 1,348.

While acknowledging the slight improvement, ECN noted with concern the low turnout recorded countrywide thus far.

The Commission therefore urges all eligible voters who have not yet registered to do so within the remaining three weeks, as there will be no extension.

The general voter registration will end on August 1. Registration points are open from Monday to Saturday, from 08:00 to 19:00.
