The City of Windhoek Fire Brigade held a street procession on Thursday in honour of the late Methuselah Khama (36), who tragically died in a head-on collision while on duty on the 7th of July.
During the memorial service, the fire service paid tribute through the traditional last alarm/siren, the black strike through the divisional logo, and the broken ladder that signifies the loss of a member.
The Chief of Emergency and Disaster Risk Management, Raymond Kapia, and the City of Windhoek's Mayor, Queen Kamati, handed over the helmet and dress code to the late Simataa's wife, Rose.
Simataa's family also attended the fire brigade farewell.
The funeral will take place in Katima Mulilo on Sunday, the 14th of July.
The late Khama has been a firefighter for more than 16 years, and the contemporaries of the late Khama remembered him as hardworking, always helpful, and an example to others.
Looking at the late Khama's life, one spots some odd similarities.
Khama was born on the 12th of the 12th month in 1987; he was permanently employed on the 3rd of the 3rd month in 2008; and he died on the 7th of the 7th month in 2024.
In his memory, the last call or alarm symbolised the last attempt to reach a fallen hero with no response, showing that Khama was no longer with them.
