After investigating for over a year, police in the Kavango East Region seem to have moved a step further regarding the death of 18-year-old Malaka Sipilikita. 

This came as 17-year-old Malakiia Simuketa appeared in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court on a summons, 15 months after Sipilikita's murder. 

Simuteka's appearance comes after months of police asking the public to come forward with any information about the death of the grade 10 learner. 

Police reports say Sipilikita was shot and killed in Rundu's Millenium Park in September 2023 by an unknown person while walking in the street shortly after 22:00. 

Simuketa faces charges of murder, robbery, and obstructing or defeating the course of justice. 

It was an emotional affair for the friends and loved ones of the deceased, who came out in numbers to attend the court proceedings. 

The matter has been postponed to 04 March 2025.
