Police officers working at Oshiko in Ongwediva under harsh conditions now have shelter following the inauguration of the checkpoints.

At the inauguration, the Police Inspector General said road safety is not merely a matter of convenience, but a fundamental right for every citizen.

Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo said the facility will serve as a frontline defence against illegal activities such as smuggling, human trafficking, and the drug trade.

The facility is equipped with a checkpoint shelter, an office block, and ablution facilities.

It was constructed for N$12.8 million.

Shikongo called on police officers to uphold the highest standard of professionalism, integrity, and accountability in the execution of their duties.

In 2011 and 2017, two police officers died while on duty at the Oshiko Roadblock, and the Police Chief paid tribute to them.

Oshana Governor Elia Irimari and Oshana Police Commander Commissioner Naftal Sakaria also spoke at the event.
