The Police Inspector General, Joseph Shikongo, has ordered officers in the Ohangwena Region to pull up their socks to deliver effective service to the public.

Lieutenant General Shikongo called a parade at Oshikango before they embarked on patrol along the Namibia-Angola border to sensitise the community on contraband and crime prevention along the border line. 

The Lieutenant General wants police officers to be committed and dedicated and stop laziness.

He says police officers are entrusted with a huge responsibility to maintain law and order in a professional manner at all times.

"Let the community feel our presence, let our community be served. We want to see police officers walking around patrolling some of you, which is why General Ndeitunga called you salary collectors. You just want money, but you are not working."

He also touched on the unacceptable behaviours of some junior officers refusing to take orders and commands from their commanders, warning that such attitudes will not be tolerated in the force.

The police said there are some elements giving their superiors an attitude of questioning who they are and where they come from, lamenting that such behaviour must cease with immediate effect.

"Therefore, colleagues, people that are appointed to lead you, no matter whatever age, are your commanders and must be respected."

He also mentioned that it is uncalled for for any officer to be on duty unprepared, saying it is vital for police to carry their pocketbooks and have their service equipment all the time. 

"We have an operation; where is yours? Can I see yours? You left them. Why do you want to tell us that we are mad at you for buying all those things and giving them to you, and you are leaving them at home? 

Shikongo also met the Angolan nationals who are selling goods at the Katwitwi location and those who are selling smuggled fuel in Namibia and briefed them about Namibian laws and regulations.
