President Nangolo Mbumba says the noble gesture of humanitarian assistance from Qatar is testimony to the strong bonds of friendship and growing relations between the two countries.
Dr. Mbumba sent a letter acknowledging and expressing gratitude to the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim ibn Hamad Al Thani, for the donation towards the drought relief programme.
The Namibian government received the donation from the Gulf State in June, comprising 102 tonnes of food parcels, including maize meal, rice, tinned beef, cooking oil, and tinned tuna fish.
President Mbumba says the generosity displayed by Sheikh Al Thani will make a difference in the lives of many Namibians.
Qatar's donation is a response to the state of emergency the President declared in the wake of the drought currently ravaging parts of Namibia.
Recent reports from the Office of the Prime Minister reveal that approximately 1.4 million people are projected to face food insecurity in the months ahead.
