Police in Omusati are appealing to the public for assistance in locating and re-arresting ten trial-awaiting offenders who escaped from the Onandjaba police holding cells on Wednesday.

The group consists of six Angolans and four Namibians who allegedly made their escape by creating a hole in the roof of a recreational room during the night.

The escapees are Pangeiko Petrus, Timoteus Moses Shimati, Mwatile Petrus, Musungwe Abraao Ndeshitila Markus, Shafooli Ndeyamunye, Karos Shitaleni, Mwetupunga Vatileni, Johannes Elago, and Lomboleni Sheetekela Amadio.

Commissioner Ismael Basson stated that the escapees face serious charges, including murder, robbery, poaching, and rape.

"We urge the public to assist the police by reporting any sightings of these inmates to the nearest police station. It’s important to note that these escapees are considered dangerous. We are not asking the public to attempt to apprehend them; rather, we request tips to ensure they are taken back into custody."
