The University of Namibia's Hage Geingob Campus hosted an open day for over 200 learners from various schools in Windhoek.

The aim of the event was to shape and motivate the high school learners who are about to enter the university to learn about the diverse fields.

This is what some of the learners had to say.

"Today was a very fun day. I believe I was educated well. I love the way the head of the university talks to us and how they give us  encouraging speeches. I also love how the students told us how university life is and how hard-working we should be to pursue our career. As for me, I'm learning more about dentistry because I love oral hygiene," says Junior Heita.

Vijanda Tjihoreko says, "So I want to be a future dentist because I had such a great experience with my past dentist with oral hygiene problems, and I feel like events like this are important because they give us exposure to what we want to do, so I'm very happy about our school for organising something like this."

Learners were also taken through demonstrations and informative sessions on courses on offer, career prospects, and admission requirements.

"Three years in and I'm fine and content, you will cry and cry, you will laugh, and you have to put many things aside, and you will lose friends because apparently you don't make time for them anymore. Medicine is a very beautiful course, but you have to make a lot of sacrifice," says Christoph Ndengu.

Mesekameneko Katjariua says, "So the school of nursing has taught me how to be confident, impatient for the patient, and also to be there for the other person. The school of nursing is more of a calling from the heart.
