A 62-year-old resident of Windhoek's Goreangab area, Maripurua Kotjipari, has been left homeless after his shack burnt down.

Kotjipari was reading by candlelight at nine o'clock in the evening when he fell asleep.

He woke up to a room full of smoke and ran out of the house with the only clothes he was wearing.

Because Kotjipari, who lives alone, did not manage to rescue anything from the house.

Kotjipari has been residing there for the past five years.
