The Chairperson of the Forum of German-speaking Namibians has called on Vice President of Namibia Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah to pick the right team, should she become the country's first female president.
Vice President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah met with members of the Forum of German-speaking Namibians at Swakopmund to seek their support in the November elections.
The forum's chairperson, Harald Hecht, lauded the peace and stability maintained in the country over the last 34 years.
He, however, highlighted some challenges that include poverty, unemployment, and a widening gap between rich and poor.
"You will be the coach of that team and arguably very well positioned since you are the last survivor of Namibia's first Cabinet in 1990. The institutional memory that you possess and your zero tolerance stance on corruption could be instrumental and vital in leading the journey of economic transformation."
Dr. Nandi-Ndaitwah said that if she wins the presidential elections, her party will work towards a peaceful, united, and prosperous Namibia, where quality service is a must.
The Swapo Party presidential candidate added that her campaign is focused on promoting unity in diversity, youth beneficiation of natural resources, empowerment, and sustainable development.
"We cannot continue to have high employment when we are transporting the labour of our people to other continents; when you are sending our raw materials. You are going to create jobs where the raw materials are going. So that's why we talk about value addition. And remember, when you give people jobs, you have solved housing, because some will be able to rent, buy, or build; even if it's just one bedroom, at least they are housed. You are solving unemployment. You are solving crime."
Most of the forum members, when granted the floor, expressed concern about the rising crime rate in Namibia.
