The 11th edition of the Taute Cup Annual Sports Tournament was launched.

Thirty-two teams are expected to participate in football and netball matches.

The Taute Cup has been named after businessman and community leader Stefanus Wilhelm since its inception in 2012, when only 21 teams participated.

The Taute Cup tournament took a break due to the COVID-19 pandemic and resumed in 2022, when Blue Waters FC was crowned champion.

This year, the Taute Cup tournament promises to bring football and netball closer to the people and the community, offering a rare opportunity to come together.

The tournament aims to unite local communities through sports and pave the way for youth developmental sports activities to thrive in the village.

Dominukus Kornelius, the chairperson of the organising committee, spoke at the launch and explained the origin of the tournament.

At the same event, Ikolelela Ekandjo, the spokesperson for the Taute Cup Annual Sports Tournament 2024, gave a rundown of what to expect and urged the public to come and enjoy the tournament.

The Taute Cup Annual Sports Tournament is sponsored by Runs Group with an amount of N$100,000.

The tournament is scheduled to take place from August 25 to August 26  at Okamwandi village in the Omusati region.
