Swapo Party Politburo Member Sisa Namandje has maintained and assured members that the party's sole presidential candidate, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, was constitutionally elected.
Namandje's address at a media briefing comes against the backdrop of a court challenge against the candidature of Nandi-Ndaitwah, citing a breach of the party's constitution.
Namandje said in no uncertain terms that the selection of the party's vice president was in conflict with its constitution.
He urged his fellow members and any participants to refrain from social media chatrooms about the issue, warning to demolish them in court when the time comes.
Concerning the demand to hold an extraordinary congress before the November elections, Namandje said the date has been set for the 19th of April next year.
"That is a valid decision, and it's a binding decision. That's one decision; there was no decision in relation to who will be the presidential candidate because by then, in terms of the rules, we had a candidate; no decision was taken; we simply noted that there is a candidate."
Namandje expressed confidence in Nandi-Ndaitwah's presidential candidature and acceptance by party members, saying once her name is submitted to ECN, she will be gazetted as Swapo's sole presidential candidate.
At the briefing, the Party's Secretary for Information and Mobilisation, Hilma Nicanor, also addressed issues including mobilisation efforts, campaign strategies, and unity.
