Police in the Zambezi Region are investigating a suspected case of murder, arson and defeating the course of justice in Katima Mulilo.

This is after a 42-year-old woman died in a house fire in the Zambezi location during the early hours of Monday.

According to a police report, the deceased, identified as Nsala Mwazi, was found dead inside the house after the fire. Her remains have been transported to the Katima Mulilo mortuary for a postmortem examination.

A partially burnt blue plastic container, reportedly containing and reeking of petrol, was found near the entrance to the deceased's bedroom, with suspicions of the fire having started at the bedroom door.

At the time of the incident, the deceased was reportedly sleeping in the bedroom with her two minor children. According to the incident report, she managed to get her children out through a window while calling for help but was unable to escape herself because of burglar bars on the window.

The house is a two-bedroom dwelling shared by the deceased and another female tenant.

Mwazi's two children survived and were taken to the Katima Mulilo state hospital for medical care. A family member who spoke to the NBC team says that they were injured but received care and have been released to their family.

This is a developing story.
