The Namibia Triathlon Federation's National Duathlon Championships reached an exciting conclusion last week Sunday with the final event held on the southern outskirts of Windhoek.
Petrus Human claimed the gold medal in the men's Standard distance category, delivering a commanding performance throughout the race.
Human took an early lead, leaving his closest rival, South Africa's Konrad Maraias, trailing behind. A crucial misstep during the first running segment cost Maraias valuable seconds, allowing Human to extend his lead by 3 minutes.
In a twist of fate, Maraias was forced to retire from the race during his bicycle stint due to a punctured wheel, paving the way for Human to secure a decisive victory with a time of 2 hours and 2 minutes.
John Valentin finished second in the veteran category with a time of 2 hours and 10 minutes, while Jan Louis Mostert rounded out the top three with a time of 2 hours and 13 minutes.
In the women's race, Anri Greef crossed the finish line first in the elite category, with the 20-year-old posting an impressive time of 2 hours and 15 minutes in the Standard race. Meanwhile, Adele De la Rey came second.
The junior sprint race category saw future star 16-year-old Nathan Chase taking the top spot with a time of 1 hour and 2 minutes for the 3-kilometer run, followed closely by Ethan Brinkman in second place.
The race marked the conclusion of the fourth and final series in the national championships, showcasing some of Namibia's top duathlon athletes.
