The Medical Superintendent at the Rundu Intermediate Hospital, Dr. Jean Kabangu, says the institution is prepared should there be an outbreak of Mpox. 

Health workers already formed an emergency preparedness committee with various staff on standby. 

One of the 18 patients tested for Mpox countrywide is a 2-year-old girl being isolated at Rundu. 

The hospital has used one of its old COVID facilities as an isolation facility for Mpox, which is now accommodating the two-year-old. 

The Medical Superintendent told nbc News that the child and the mother crossed into Namibia from Angola on 21 August, with the mother seeking medical attention for the two-year-old. 

The child presented signs and symptoms of Mpox, and the hospital collected two samples. The first sample tested negative, but they are still waiting on the results of the second sample. 

Dr. Kabangu says there are currently no positive cases in Rundu and advises people to practice good hygiene and seek early medical attention.
