Women in the ||Kharas and Hardap regions are encouraged to form Volleyball teams to join the Southern Volleyball Association.

The call was made following the end-of-season league games that concluded in Lüderitz.

The Southern Volleyball Association, the only one of the seven volleyball associations in the country affiliated with the Namibia Volleyball Federation, still does not have women's volleyball teams registered with the association serving both the ||Kharas and Hardap regions.

Ester Katjivikua, Secretary of the Southern Volleyball Association, explained that while many women are interested in playing, their scattered locations make it challenging to form teams.

"I know that we have ladies who play volleyball, but we are vast. You find two in Oranjemund, one in Lüderitz, and two in Keetmanshoop. This is a challenge because we cannot form a team within a town. Also, commitment is crucial; if you love the sport, you should be willing to sacrifice. I believe that ladies can be inspired by teams in the VNL league, such as Revivals and Kudos, which are succeeding. I hope that ladies who know volleyball or are eager to learn will join and form a team to represent the Southern Volleyball Association because, currently, we do not have a women's league in the south." she stated

Rudolf Kushokosha, Vice Chairperson of the Southern Volleyball Association, agrees. "If all the clubs can push the female players they have and try to recruit more female players, and if we can promise competitions and games next year, that might encourage them to come for training."  he said

Some players also use the opportunity to urge women to form volleyball teams.

Mbatemua Ruhumba  one  of the Volleyball Player  said that "I would like to invite the ladies in Keetmanshoop to come together and start a ladies' volleyball club. I watch volleyball regularly and sometimes act as a line judge."

Another player indicated Marceline Jankies said "Volleyball is one of the less aggressive sports out there. I encourage young girls to start playing. It's a great game and very easy to pick up. You just need six people on the court, so start inviting friends. Peer pressure can be a motivator, so if I see my friend Valmary playing, I would definitely want to join."

Rosemary Makanga  a Volleyball Player  mentioned that "The main obstacle is fear, but volleyball is one of the easiest sports to get into. I encourage other ladies to join and form our own team so that we can enjoy the sport just like the men do."

The Southern Volleyball League was established in 2019 and has since registered seven teams from Oranjemund, Keetmanshoop, Mariental, Lüderitz, Hoachanas, and Rosh Pinah.
