Windhoek High Court judge Thomas Masuku has overturned the Electoral Commission of Namibia's (ECN) decision to deregister the Namibia Economic Freedom Fighters (NEFF) as a political party.

The ruling, delivered on Thursday, reverses the ECN's June decision and allows NEFF to remain a validly registered party, eligible to participate in the upcoming November elections.

The ECN had also deregistered the Christian Democratic Voice (CDV), leading to the removal of its leader from parliament.

Lawyer Kadhila Amoomo, who represented the party on his social media, wrote, “We are done with this case. The High Court has declared that the ECN decision to de-register NEFF is invalid and they must pay the costs. Our client NEFF will now work hard to resolve the issues with ECN amicably. ECN is not an enemy. Hopefully, the parties will not be at war but will see the bigger picture for the sake of our future generations.”
