The National Unity Democratic Organisation (NUDO) Gobabis Municipality Councillor, Elvire Theron, has resigned with immediate effect.

This was confirmed by the town mayor, Melba Tjozongoro.

Tjozongoro says Theron sent a letter of resignation to the Chief Executive Officer.

"Upon my arrival, I received the resignation letter. As I entered the chamber, the meeting couldn't proceed because of the resignation from the council with immediate effect, and the meeting also took it as such and accepted the resignation as it was tendered. It was also reiterated as such that councillor Theron, the former mayor, is no longer a councillor of Gobabis municipality."

Theron's resignation was also confirmed by NUDO's regional coordinator, Otniel Mbaeva.

Mbaeva added that the office of NUDO Secretary General will soon inform the council on a replacement.

Theron served the local authority for close to five years.
