The Junior National Council will be convening from Monday next week under the theme 'Educating the Namibian Child Fit for the Agenda 2063 and Beyond'.

This was announced by the Chairperson of the National Council, Lukas Muha, when he adjourned the National Council's special session on Friday.

"The National Council is once again hosting the Junior Council from 9-12 September this year under the theme 'Educating the Namibian child fit for Agenda 2026'. 42 learners from various regions across Namibia will discuss issues affecting young people both locally and globally."

Muha also announced that two junior council members represented Namibia at the 12th Commonwealth Youth Parliament session in New Zealand, which concluded this week.

"I thank the two Junior National Council members for making us proud at the international forum. Your support for the programme is highly appreciated."

As he adjourned the National Council special session, Muha praised the MPs for their dedication in considering four financial bills and others passed by the National Assembly.

These include the Income Tax Amendment, Value-Added Tax, Transfer Duty Amendment, and Stamp Duty Amendment bills, as well as the Divorce, Regularisation of Status of Certain Residents of Namibia, Their Descendants, and Foreign Spouses Bills.

Several bills that had been referred to the committee stage in the National Council were passed without amendments.
