52-year-old Thusnelde Garises, who became homeless with her three grandchildren in 2020 after purchasing a house in Walvis Bay under allegedly false pretenses from police officer Moira Engelbrecht, is seeking legal recourse.

Garises claims she sold her home in Windhoek and relocated to Walvis Bay, but after only three months of occupancy, the Engelbrecht family informed her that the property was a family house and did not belong to Moira Engelbrecht.

Facing homelessness in an unfamiliar town and exposed to harsh weather conditions, Garises and her grandchildren returned to Windhoek after a month.

Garises subsequently filed a case against Engelbrecht, who was formerly stationed at the Walvis Bay police station. Engelbrecht, charged with fraud, transferred to Arandis and currently resides there.

Today, Engelbrecht was scheduled to appear at the Swakopmund Magistrate's Court. However, she failed to attend, resulting in a warrant being issued for her arrest.
