The Dr. Hage Geingob Cup, a football tournament launched in 2014 to honour the late President Dr. Hage Geingob's contributions to local sport particularly football, will come to a close with its 10th and final edition.

The tournament has been a highlight of the Namibian sport calendar, showcasing the talent and passion of local football teams. Namibia Breweries Limited, MTC, and Bank Windhoek have been long-standing partners of the cup, providing essential support throughout its decade-long history.

The final event is scheduled for October 19, 2024, at the Windhoek Independence Stadium. Fans can expect an exciting day of football, featuring a rematch between the defending champions, Eeshoke Chula Chula, and the Debmarine Premiership champions, African Stars.

In addition to the main match, the event will also include a game between FC Ongos Ladies and Girls & Goals, as well as a match between an MTC Celebrity team and the Danger Point Celebrity team.

During the launch, the Deputy Minister of Sport, Youth, and National Service, Dr. Emma Kantema-Gaomas, described the 10th and final edition of the event as a bittersweet moment for the nation.

Representatives from the various entities involved in the event shared messages of support as the cup concludes. NBL pledged an additional N$1.5 million towards the cup's final edition.

Amos Shiyuka, the Chairperson of the competition, highlighted the event activities planned for the day.

Proceeds from the event will be donated to the Geingob family.

As the Dr. Hage Geingob Cup concludes, it leaves behind a legacy of sportsmanship, talent, and community engagement.

The tournament has played a significant role in promoting football development in Namibia and inspiring young athletes to pursue their dreams.
