The Namibian national bowling team is gearing up to compete in the African States Tournament in Orapa, Botswana.

The tournament serves as a qualifier for the upcoming Commonwealth Games.

The team, consisting of five men and five women, along with their respective team managers, will depart for Botswana on Saturday.

The tournament features six participating countries: Botswana, Kenya, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

Last year, Namibia's women's team emerged victorious at the tournament held in Windhoek. Star bowler Marietjie Van Den Bergh is hopeful for another gold medal.

Elna Esterhuizen, manager of the ladies team, expressed confidence in the team's preparation despite logistical challenges.

She has been remotely assessing the players and providing drills for individual training.

A send-off ceremony and final practice will be held at Eros Bowling Grounds on Friday.
