President Nangolo Mbumba has reappointed Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo as Inspector General of the Namibian Police for a period of three years.
The appointment is with effect from 1 October 2024 to 30 September 2027.
Shikongo, who turned 60 years old this month, took over the reigns at the police following the retirement of Lieutenant General Sebastian Ndeitunga in 2022.
In a statement, President Mbumba said Lieutenant General Shikongo is expected to lead the police and execute all functions entrusted to him by the Police Act and perform such other duties as may be lawfully assigned by the relevant authorities.
Dr. Mbumba further expressed confidence in the abilities of Inspector General Shikongo as he implements programmes directed towards the fight against crime and the transformation and modernisation of the Namibian Police Force.
This is for the Force to be able to operate to the highest regional and global benchmarks in the maintenance of law and order.
